Quite often I is left instead of right.

I saw this last week and really liked it. There were a few things that I think could have been done better, but it’s an incredibly important topic that we tend to not talk about enough.

My qualms with it were that it focused a lot on how to change things as a consumer, ignoring the people who can’t or don’t want to change things only through their purchasing habits. Also, it focused almost solely on eliminating negative portrayals of female sexuality, while never proposing an alternative of positive portrayals of female sexuality. I completely understand that it’s easier to focus on the damage of hyper-sexualization of women in the media, but are we supposed to go back to the 50s when women were seen as having no sexual agency? I think that does women and girls a disservice, too.

But I liked it, was really glad we went to see it, and I did some painless networking with the woman sitting next to me and got her card to contact her about internship opportunities! If you’re interested at all, I urge you to see it!
