Thanks!
Thanks for the encouragement about grad school applications and my outfit on Saturday! It’s been so nice the past few months having tumblr as an escape and virtual support system. You’re all so fantastic!

Mohamed Ibrahim Elmasry, a computer science professor at a Canadian university who has found a way to connect to Facebook from Cairo, wrote in a recent update on his wall:
People on bridge leading to Lib [Tahrir] Square calling for the regime to end - about 9 pm (although [curfew] 6 p.m. -7 a.m. in effect). It seems they will stay overnight on the bridge. They have...

Streaming funerals
I definitely understand the appeal of webcasting a funeral: far-away family can see it, it can be archived, members of the military can see the funerals of fallen comrades if they wish. Personally, I can’t think of anything that would make me feel more lonely than watching a streaming funeral alone. I’m the only member of my family in the midwest, so if something happens, I don’t...
How Minnesota winters fuck with you.
I just went to take the trash out in knee-length sweatpants, a tshirt and winter boots. I wasn’t outside long, but I didn’t even feel that cold. It’s 21 degrees right now.

Happy
I had a really great weekend. I went to dinner and The King’s Speech on Friday with a friend, was really lazy during the day on Saturday, and went to the roller derby on Saturday night. That was really fun and exciting. We got seats on the floor, and it was the championship bout, so the girls were going all out. I’m still confused about how they award points, (last night was very...

It's currently -9 degrees F
Feels like -26 degrees F with the wind. So what did I eat as soon as I came back from sitting by a gas fireplace at a coffee shop? Ice cream. Peppermint ice cream.
That’s normal, right? That’s not the first sign one in a long string of signs that I’m descending into insanity, right?
My absent-mindedness is going to cause problems.
Tonight while I was cooking dinner, I put a beer in my freezer because I forgot to put it in the fridge when I bought it. This is the second time I have done that and then forgotten about it until at least 2 hours after I’ve eaten. I really need to just put my beer in the fridge when I buy it, because I don’t want to clean up an exploded bottle of Fat Tire from my freezer.

I am super bummed right now that I don’t have a tv. Thanks for liveblogging the awards, though! I feel like I’m watching.
You want a link girlie? I am watching a livestream online!
I clicked on the one you posted earlier, and nothing came up! :(
Ok wait, try again, I might have typed it wrongly!

I'm sort of worried
About what someone would think if they watched me listening to the Amelie soundtrack on my ipod. I seem to be incapable of listening to it without waltzing with my head… But I love it too much to ever stop listening, so obviously my love outweighs my fear of being called out as a crazy person waltzing in her seat to music nobody else can hear.
How to impress people at a dinner party
Bake your own bread. It’s really easy, and people are always amazed. I had a dinner party last winter where I made a stew-like thing and this bread, and my friends didn’t believe that I had made it myself. And I don’t have a pizza stone, so I just use the loaf pan method, and it works really well.
However, if you decide to make only enough dough for 2 loaves, don’t convert...
