India polio-free, declares WHOAV-India Videos -... →
This is really amazing. I’ve read articles about the difficulties in some areas of India, with imams speaking against the vaccine, and the coalitions and educational campaigns to overcome that hurdle. An incredible accomplishment.
Happy Birthday Jennhoney!!!!
Hope you are having a wonderful day, filled with all of your favorite things!
joyengel asked: Back as in BACK FOR GOOD or Back as in Back for a Visit?
There’s a guy in my eyeline at a coffee shop/restaurant who looks a lot like Dylan Moran/Bernard Black. I’d take a picture for fellow fans, but I’m pretty sure I’d get caught and this is my favorite place to do homework.
And it can’t be Bernard Black, he’s with his wife and kid, and he’s being nice to both of them.

– Jaclyn Friedman (ConsentFest talks about sex, and wants to add more voices | OpenFile)
Word. When it comes to sex, what could be better than two people bringing their own creativity and experience to the table? (Maybe three people bringing their creativity and experience to the table? Two, three,...
I really need to study
for my Biostatistics exam tomorrow. But I had happy hour with some former coworkers, and now I’m a bit too tipsy to take this shit seriously. I just want to dick around on the internet. 2 for 1s, coming to bite me in the ass.
On a related note, the New Belgium winter beer is really good.
I’m in the middle of writing my last paper of the semester! I can’t wait to stop writing papers about access to contraception for a month. It’s a great topic, but I’m having a little trouble coming up with new angles for the same facts. Contraception is important, it should be easily accessible.
A one-sentence paper is too short, right?

I really just need to accept that I can’t get anything done reading articles on the computer. I retain nothing.

Jumbled: Pronunciations, people! →

This post reminded me of a few words that have cropped up in recent weeks that most folks seem hell-bent on mispronouncing. (As in the post, it’s easy to understand how a word like “epitome” can be mispronounced. It looks like it should be “EH-pi-tome” when it’s really “eh-PI-tuh-me.”)
“Comparable” is one of my pet peeves. I know that it’s now “accepted” to...
Adventures in Immunization Compliance
Because I am a public health student, I have some pretty strict immunization guidelines. I have to get two Mantoux tests (the skin test for tuberculosis) my first year, and one next year, along with providing documentation of all my childhood vaccines. I don’t mind doing it, I wish I’d gotten started earlier so that I could have registered on time, but that shouldn’t be a...

I did make good choices last night!
Today, not so much. Thor was wonderful, Chris Hemsworth’s abs were just what I needed last night. Now, after goofing off all day, I’m working on my paper about a comprehensive sex ed curriculum for the American Indian population in Minnesota, and it’s slow going. I’m being slowed down by needing facts to back up all of my proposals. I wish I could just speculate wildly,...
Should I have come home tonight right after my last class like a responsible adult and started the paper that’s due on Saturday? Yes. Did I got to the bar, drink two giant beers, take the bus home, go to the store and buy crappy food, half-off Halloween candy and rent Thor from RedBox instead? Fuck yes I did. Now I’m tipsily typing this post while waiting to watch Thor. I blame Jules,...

I finished the paper from Hell
Thanks for all the encouragement, it was a HUGE help!
The main reason I was having so much trouble with it, besides the technical problems I was having, is that I’m going to New York tomorrow to see the sweetest baby in the whole world! Technically, she’s a toddler now, but I’m going to keep thinking of her as a baby until I get there tomorrow and she’s running around.

glitterbubbles replied to your post: Holy god
Um, okay, THAT TOTALLY HELPED! I’m not any farther along with my paper, really, but I giggled and now I feel like I can handle it. Because you sent me a gif of Rupert Grint talking about unicycling. Love you!
Holy god
I’m writing a paper that makes me absolutely want to kill myself. I just spent about an hour and a half writing about one data source before realizing I can’t use it because it is incredibly inconsistent. Ugh. I have a beer, but I’m really not sure that’s enough to help me at this point. Send help!
Help me tumblr!
My professor asked us to google World War III today in class, saying that it began in 1994. I’ve been poking around, and I can’t find anything! I think he has something in mind, but I can’t find what it is. I think it might be related to concentrated efforts to kill women or make their lives more difficult worldwide, but I can’t find any evidence of that. My thinking is...
I'm trying not to complain,
But I have to share something that I know Tumblr will understand. I came in to school to actually get work done (I don’t have to come in on Mondays, no classes), and I got an iced coffee from a place right across the street. You guys, it is the weakest iced coffee I have had in YEARS. It is making me so sad. I want to pour it out, but I paid money for it, and I need the caffeine. Mondays....
I've just realized
that 3 out of my last 4 posts have consisted of some sort of media and complaining about biostatistics. So, here’s a more balanced view of my grad school experience: I love it. I am learning a lot, and most of my classes are really great. My epidemiology class involves a really bad professor who seems incapable of explaining things in more than one way, and gets really flustered when we ask...
